My 3.5 year old daughter has gone through 6 pairs of pediped Mary Jane style shoes... Isabella, Naomi, Natasha, etc, and they are awesome. I hoped this pair would be the equivalent fit in an outdoor shoe, but the Minnie base is much, much wider and her foot was swimming in it. I held it up next to the same size in the isabella that she currently wears and it is obviously wider. Returned it immediately. Would be a great shoe for a wide foot.
However.
These particular shoes have a slight flaw, especially for toddlers that still have a bit of "ankle chub". (Not sure how else to describe it, but if this applies to your child you will probably know what I mean!).
The problem is with the strap. It crosses further back on the foot nearest the ankle and constantly rubs the ankle. It is especially bad because the strap is velcro, and, no matter how carefully you fasten a velcro strap, a small amount of the hard half sticks out. This hard part scratches and rubs the ankle furthering the blister and potentially breaking skin!
Again, this is probably only true for younger babies/toddler that have that bit of ankle chub/roll. This rolls over the strap and causes irritation. My recommendation (if this is your situation) would be too get the Dakota Grip n'' Go sandal. The strap crosses further down the foot and avoids this problem entirely.
If you have an older child I believe these shoes would fit much better. The huge bonus of these sandals is that the cut-outs along the sides of the shoe are covered with a fine mesh, thereby preventing rocks from entering and hurting the bottom of your child''s foot.
