Birkenstock Women''s Gizeh Heritage Thong Sandal

Birkenstock Women''s Gizeh Heritage Thong Sandal,Black Oiled,38 M EUI bought my first pair of Birkenstocks over 20 years ago, and admittedly, they were ugly but comfortable.I bought my first pair of Gizehs in golden bronze last summer after suffering from plantar fasciitis (my podiatrist calls it "the flip flop disease.")I wore them almost daily with no pain.Very versatile color and style. This year, I ordered the leather ones in henna. They were MUCH darker red in real life in fact, it''s hard to tell they even are red. I love them.I wear a size 8.5, and always order down in Birkenstocks size 38.

I have these in black and wore the heck out of them (they are actually 4 years old and look good). If you are familiar with birks, you know that they take a lot to break in.The sole starts out quite flat and as you wear it develops a slight curve.I actually tripped on a sidewalk, being used to my more broken-in pair and fell to my knees.Very embarrassing.

Also, your feet get used to gripping the toe bar with can ruin you for a lot of other shoes. This feature allows you to wear them for hours without complaint.

You will get blisters along the top of your foot.Break them in slowly. They aren''t for everybody, but I love mine.

The leather in this pair is particularly forgiving. After I fell, I was able to spray the leather with a sealer and easily buff out the scratches.

It makes sense to invest in cork sealer for any birks. They can really prolong the life of your sandals.Since the footbed is suede leather, you will get foot prints on it, unavoidable.

So, this list is mostly cons, but there are a lot of positives in Birks.Like not sweating or overheating.Quality construction than can take a beating.Simple designs, that while not fashionable, go with a lot of your closet.

I had a bit of a snafu in ordering these so make sure if you want genuine leather that it is what you REALLY get.

THIS pair is leather, and worth the extra cost in my estimation. After wearing the Birko-Flor faux-leather version, the leather one is much more comfortable. Softer straps with more give that are supple and mold to your feet better.

I''m 8 months pregnant, due smack dab in the middle of summer with my 2nd child. I needed a good supportive, comfortable shoe to see my through; flip flops just do not cut it for me anymore. I get instant pain when wearing them.

These shoes took about 2 days to get used to/break in the thong part in between the big and index toes is more rigid than I''m used to. But after that? They are heavenly. I don''t think I''ve worn another pair of shoes since they arrived, actually! No more ankle/knee/hip pain at the end of the day, thank God. Just normal pregnancy back pain now. ;)

This was my first pair of Birkenstocks, though I''ve owned several pairs of Danskos before. I am sold, and will never buy rubber flip flops again... there is just no comparison. I think I might even try a different style of sandal. I like that these are T-strap. I''m not into the "hippy" look, but need supportive shoes... glad that these don''t scream "I love patchouli!" like some of their other styles. It would be great to see even more fashion-forward styles in the future too.

I recently ordered these in Henna and I could not be more pleased with my purchase. This is my second pair of leather Birkenstocks (have a years-old pair of Arizonas) and the Gizehs are just as high quality as the others.

Also, I was a bit nervous about the Henna color being too red, but in person, they are much darker than they appear online (due to the oil on the outer surface of the leather). They can pass for a neutral shade (even with the slight hint of red) and go with everything.

Seasoned Birkenstock owners will be used to the breaking-in period, but first-time buyers will need to heed the manufacturers recommendation to break these shoes in for a few hours a day, over time. Once they mold to one''s feet, they are a dream to wear (and so durable). I ordered my regular shoe size and they fit perfectly.

Invest in an oiled leather sponge and cork sealer to extend the shoes'' wear.

Still breaking these in because I don''t wear them frequently enough yet. They are still comfortable, tho. I did feel that discomfort at the thong like most others but I took the advice of wearing them around the house for a while before hitting the streets. I still feel it a little when I put them on every time but then I don''t notice it after a while. I''ve walked in these for long distances and not had any problems.

These are my first pair of Birkenstocks and when I slipped my feet into them the first time I felt as if I''d gone down one floor on an elevator. This is because I am used to Fit Flops and they are thicker soled. But they''re okay. I can''t say I''m as taken with them as some reviewers because I don''t feel compelled to wear them all the time. Maybe because I don''t have issues with my feet. I like walking and I wear this type of shoe almost exclusively.

I liked this colour and I couldn''t see myself easily buying anything but these in this colour because they just seem to fit into my everyday wear (which is jeans/casual pants) quite easily.

I feel compelled to add (although many have before me) how the sizing varies. I wear size 11M (female) but in these I bought a regular 41 and they were a perfect fit. Just saying, it''s advisable to go down one size for a perfect fit. Thanks to everyone who has provided this information in their reviews; it is especially useful for those of us who have no other option but to buy online, and for whom returns are inconvenient and costly.
