Unfortunately there is a design flaw that causes the sole to quickly (as in within 12 hours) begin de-laminating from the shoe.Worse yet, at the current price, Merrell needs to incorporate a waterproof-breathable membrane, an orthotic foot bed, and a quality out sole from Vibram or Goodyear in order to stay competitive with offerings from Teva, Vasque, and Keen.
If you still want to pony up and purchase these shoes, be sure that your retailer has a solid return policy in case you run into quality problems.Overall this is a good shoe.Very comfortable and fashionalbe for a hiking shoe. The only issue I had with them is that the rubber part where the sole of the shoe meets the upper leather part by the toe peeled away from the shoe where your foot bends rather quickly, on both shoes...

The people who gave these shoes a bad rating clearly bought them for the wrong reason. Yes these are made by Merrell, the company that makes great hiking shoes and boots. But these are not meant for hiking! Just look at the tread and low ankle. These are casual shoes for a walk downtown, going to church, or just looking stylish when you don''t plan on leaving the pavement too much. Sure they will fall apart and be uncomfortable if you try hiking with them! So would any other dress shoe.
I bought these shoes for the look, and because I trust the Merrell brand. I don''t use them for hiking, running, or dirty jobs. I use them as they were meant to be used for casual purposes. And mine have held up great! I wear them quite often. The longest walk I took them on was probably when I walked during a 4 mile parade route. They weren''t as comfortable as walking shoes or cross-training shoes would have been, but they did fine enough.
In short, I love the look. That is why I bought them, and that is why I will by another pair so that I can continue wearing them once Merrell stops selling them. I am sure the pair I have now will last longer than the current fashion trends.

This is the best-looking casual shoe I have ever worn, with a smart yet understated style. It fit perfectly onto my foot when I first put it on. The hard sole and stiff fabric of the shoe also make it seem durable (I don''t know for certain because I didn''t wear it long enough). This pair of Loess shoes was so very promising, but then my feet rejected it. Why? There is almost no padding in the shoe. This isn''t a huge problem by itself. But then combine that with the low walls of the shoe near the achilles tendon and a heel-to-toe rolling mechanic that feels more like slapping the ground, and you get an ergonomic nightmare. Big blisters formed on my achilles tendons by the third day of wearing, and they were bleeding by the fifth day. After that I couldn''t put on the shoe without inserting some padding -even then, it was painful to walk. It''s a big shame -I still haven''t found a better-looking pair of casual shoes.Seller was great, shoes not so good.I love Merrell shoes so I thought my husband would like a pair. The first pair arrived on time but there was issue on the inside that made them uncomfortable.Seller promptly exchange them for us.The second pair has a area where the leather is pulling away from the rubber siding. My husband has had these less then a month and wore them approximately 10 times. For $120 I expect better craftmanship.I''m in the process of requesting a refund, hope we get one.
