First, the soles are stiff and provide a great deal of support. They resist twisting and bending quite well. Second, the insoles are easily removed so you can use Dr. Scholl''s gel inserts easily.
The leather does not need polishing. The soles are a dense and comfortable rubber. They absorb shock well.I have three pair now but have worn out two old pair of these.I am very hard on shoes and these stand up very well. I used to think they were expensive but I know I get three times the wear out of these than shoes that are 1/2 the price.I need the support the heavy duty sole provides and since I have had a problem with plantar faciitis, I use a Superfeet insole which with the stiffer sole help solves my problem. The bison leather is comfortable and wears great! All I do is wipe them with a damp cloth and they are looking good again. The soles wear well and have a good "grip".They are the only dress (and work) shoes I wear now and am looking for two more pair to use as my "good" shoes.
