Teva Men''s Zilch Flexible Sandal

Teva Men''s Zilch Flexible Sandal,Pirate Black,10.5 M USThe Zilch Sandal is just as described. It is minimal but protects the bottom of the foot and is easy to run in. I am 86 years old. Jogging in the sandal using the barefoot form of running reduces strain on the knees. The real trick is sizing the sandal, and then adjusting the straps to keep the toes from shifting forward or back, taking advantage of the minimum contour at the heel. In measuring the foot, putting the heel of your foot against the wall, measuring in centimeters to the the tip of the toe, and ordering the exact length as shown on the sizing chart, will give you a perfect fit. Once you learn how to adjust the straps, you can wear the sandal all day without discomfort. So size is critical. It is absolutely amazing how well the designers have engineered the Zilch.

I grew up in Africa running barefoot. Since using running shoes with heels I''ve had issues when ramping up my distance over 5 miles with shin splints and the like.

After switching back to "barefoot", not real barefoot cause I work in a office and my feet are too soft, I''ve not had any problems.

These sandals have been great and I''m now up to ten miles with them and little visible wear over 100 miles or so. They would easily last a marathon.

I took of one star cause of the center straps chafed my skin off the first time I used them, but then I realized if I loosen the center straps so they are not touching it takes that problem away completely.

I prefer running in these than shoes by far, only would like the soles to be harder for more realistic ground feedback but then, most people wouldn''t.

The Zilch sandal is very light and has a minimalist look to it. The sandal was very comfortable at first but then the thin strapping material started to cut into my foot. I adjusted the straps but the thin strap still cut into my skin. I would not recommend these sandals for long walks or hikes.

As others have mentioned, the sizing on these is off a bit, at least the way my feet are structured.I ordinarily wear a 10, sometimes a 10 1/2.When my size 10s arrived, the piece holding the big toe was halfway up the toe, if not more, after snugging in the heel using the straps. This felt really odd, so I turned them in and dropped a full size down, to a 9.With these I find the toe piece less uncomfortable, though still would prefer having it more snug to the intertoe crease, rather than a few centimeters up the big toe. These 9s feel a little undersized for me, but I''m keeping them anyway.(If this is caused by individual variations in toe length, perhaps they could make the toe piece moveable forward and backward, with some way to secure it.These pieces are fixed in place.)

For minimalist shoes, the soles feel a bit thick and solid, compared to vivobarefoot shoes, where the texture of the ground comes through the 3mm of neoprene or whatever it is.I prefer the vivos because of this, but am not keen on the look of their Achilles sandal, which I also own.

All that said... I AM keeping them.I haven''t worn mine long enough to tell whether they will be uncomfortable where the straps hit, but I''m ok so far.

The shoe is almost just as amazing as it looks and it''s very cool. However, i noticed that it is slightly big, so probably a half size down would have fit me better(i got the usual size that i would get when i bought shoes) so the toe loop didn''t seem to be sitting at the right area, but it was still quite fine.
