Donald J Pliner Men''s Rex Slip-On

This is the 3rd pair I own of this shoe.I have 2 pairs in black and one in brown. I was glad to find them on Amazon.Most places are out of the color or style.Thank you.

I love Donald J Pliner and usually they make top quality products that last me for a long time.This is not one of those products.I usually wear these shoes for work so they get a lot of use but nothing extraordinary.

The first pair I ordered, the sole started to separate from the shoe in the heel after 2-3 weeks. I returned and reordered a new pair.

The second pair, the inner side of the shoe began to separate from the top of the sole in less than 2 weeks. I returned and reordered a new pair.I then had to reorder two more pairs -for a total of four -which all had the same problem.

I am keeping my fourth pair even though it is separating like the last two pairs.Despite the serious flaws in its production, it''s a great looking shoe. I really like Donald Pliner but this model is complete rubbish.

These shoes were good quality when I bought them at a department store a couple years ago.The leather held up well, retained its shine, resisted scuffing.Also, the look is simple, unadorned.I sought out the exact Donald J. Pliner "Rex" model to purchase again at Amazon when it time came to replace my old pair.

Well, something''s changed.I ordered this pair early August 2012, and a little over a month in, maybe 9 wears, they are not holding together well.The sole of the shoe is composed of layers of material, and the layers are separating visibly near the big toe.The same thing is happening with the back heel.Unacceptable quality.

I bought Donald Pliner shoes because they were supposed to be the finest quality.However, after wearing the shoes about twenty times, the sole totally separated from the body of the shoe.Not exactly a mark of craftsmanship on part of the manufacturer.I don''t think I will buy again.

These shoes replace a similarly styled pair of top line Hugo Boss Italian-made shoes, a wardrobe staple of mine for years. The Pliners are as comfortable as my old standby and they appear repairable as well (I had my Boss shoes fully re-soled 4 times and they still look great).I digress.....The Pliner leather upper is soft, and the rubber chevrons on the sole will probably extend their life. The styling makes them look like boots when standing, only much more comfortable. Looks great with a suit or jeans. The Amazon price was the best on the web for this particular model, even with shipping and customs duties to Canada. Delivered in 3 business days. TIP: The key to keeping good quality men''s shoes serviceable is to use cedar shoe stretchers at all times when not wearing them to keep them dry, sweet smelling and in the proper shape. Put them in as soon as you get home. And use galoshes in the rain! Find a great shoe repair and replace the full sole every time they get worn out. But first, ask the shoemaker to show you the raw replacement soles he will be using to make sure they are Italian, pliable and the same thickness as the original.
