Where the upper portion of the mule hits, sort of cuts the foot after just a bit of walking. My feet are average, not narrow not wide...probably ok if you have more narrow footbed though.
When I put these in my cart they were $43. dollars but I was charged 75. + dollars why?? I wore these on new years eve and had checked in lower slippers in "shoe check" in case they hurt my feet, but, I danced all night and they were comfortable until way past 4AM :) I also bought the gold and wore them to a show two weeks before (couple of hours) and they were painful and my feet ached to walk for two days! After that I put shoe stretches in these as they completed my perfect outfit for New years. Shoes are beautiful, but, I am not happy with the seller jacking up the price at all and would like a credit for the difference to continue doing business with them.
