Teva Men''s Gnarkosi Water Shoe

Teva Men''s Gnarkosi Water Shoe,Bombay Brown,8.5 M USThis is an excellent lightweight, well-fitting shoe that is designed for getting your feet wet. I got them for ocean kayaking, and generally going in and out of the water. The water channels work. Step out of the water, and you feel the water draining out of the shoes in a second or two. They go from weighing a ton soaking wet (like any shoe), to being super light again. Very neat. I''m hard-pressed to say they weigh any more wet, than dry.

I''m also impressed with the fit. Most shoes at this price, don''t have a lot of support going on. These work really well, at least on my feet, and they''re a joy even for longer walks.

I love this shoe for hiking! I don''t have to worry about getting it wet or walking in water and my shoe being super heavy. The drain and quick dry technology works great! The only things I don''t like about this shoe is the fitting, It is very comfortable but its a little narrow and takes some time to break in. I have some blisters from breaking these shoes in to be prepared. Also don''t expect these shoes to grip underwater because you can slip. Above water its great, Most of the time on wet surfaces I do not have a problem. SO over all I love this shoe and it is my go to outdoor shoe during the spring and summer.

These shoes were purchased specifically for a trip to the Galapagos Islands. Many of the islands are only accessable via a raft, which in my case would be a Zodiac Raft (the kind that the Navy Seals use in their sea operations). Some of those landings were going to be "wet landings" onto beaches.A "wet landing" is where one disembarks the raft directly into shallow water (as opposed to onto dry land), walks through the water, onto the wet sandy/rocky beach, and finally onto dry land.Of course, one does the opposite to get back onto the raft, in order to be transported back to the larger ship.Since the sea floor would range from soft sand, to sand embedded with sharp volcanic rock, doing this barefoot or with cheap thin soled "beach sandals" would be risky and enviting injury. Also, after the landings, we would exploring/hiking around the island for many hours, to view the wildlife. We would be treking over all types of surfaces from dry sand, to very slippery, sharp volcanic rocks, which could slice bare skin open if you would fall.

Not wanting to carry around the footwear needed for the landing all day, while wearing the shoes needed for the exploration phase, I wanted to find one shoe which would serve both purposes. After extensive research, and reading lots of end-user reviews, about all the various models from different manufacturers, I elected to go with the Teva Gnarkosi Water Shoe.

I had never worn a water shoe before, and didn''t know what to expect.Ideally, if one wasn''t going to wear it for an extended period of time or on a long hike, doing so without stockings would be recommended. When you transition from the water to the land, the water drains out from these shoes quickly, completely and they reach a dry feeling in a short period of time. It''s like water going thru a sieve.Thankfully, I learned from several reviewers, that for extended wearing (especially hiking over various terrains where the feet would be twisting and turning in the shoes) one should wear stockings, or they may get painful abrasions. So, I purchased some low cut "mesh like" sport stockings that Nike makes (since they supposedly dry quickly). The shoe dried out as advertised, but the stockings remained somewhat damp throughout the day. However, the slightly damp sock wasn''t problematic, as that was preferential to painful foot sores.

The shoes did extremely well on land as a hiking shoe. They were comfortable on all the different surfaces all day long.My biggest concern was walking/climbing on the very slippery (slick as ice) wet volcanic rocks. They did a great job there too.

The only drawback of this type of water shoe, when walking in sea water, near and onto a sandy beach head, is that the fine sand particles that are suspended in the water, flow thru the small openings along with the water into the shoe, and some remain after the water drains out. This is going to happen with any shoe of this type, no matter who''s make.

I would highly recommend this product, as it served my specific needs perfectly. It can easily be worn both as a water shoe, or just a hiking shoe.It is very versatile.

Also, if you are a world traveler, looking for one of the most unique, unspoiled places on planet Earth, a visit to the Galapagos Islands is a MUST see.

I love the look and feel of the shoe but for some reason, these shoes have made the top of my feet break out into an itchy rash. I have only had this happen another time with one pair of Crocs I ordered years ago. Treating with neosporin and I''ll try again. This is my second pair of Teva''s and I wear my other pair (Dozers) almost every single day. I''m a heavier guy and I can wear those anywhere even on long walks and they feel great on my feet.

I just returned a pair of these for an exchange. First time pluuling them on with heel lift tab and it broke easily, with the laces unlaced. I am surprised that this feature would be so fragile and thin. Maybe it was just a factory error, but will find out when new pair arrives. Anyone else with this issue?
