The natural rope that wraps around the shoe makes these instantly casual...perfect for jeans and summer skirts. The colorful heel was why I was compelled to purchase-it goes with everything without looking too ''Rsinbow Brite''.The quality is excellent, as I have found most all Assous shoes to be. The heel, though listed under 5 inches, is at least that. It''s HIGH. You get a bit of a break when you factor in the generous platform, but it''s still essentially like walking on 4+ inch heels. If you''re not accustomed to that, these have a bit of a wobble factor. Ankle support, unless you cinch in tightly is minimal. The heel is synthetic and spongy. Spongy? Yep. If you''re a teeny tiny thing and weigh next to nothing, it''s doubtful you''ll notice. But I don''t weigh next to nothing...so each time I step in these, they kind of compress...like walking on something slightly inflatable that has give. It''s a strange sensation. I think it''s designed for comfort, but I worry with much more use, they''ll wear down a bit.
The material of the sandal itself is rich, deep, and, in the red, not too clownish or bright. It''s soft, quality, and the buckle is adequate. I tend to think many shoe designers tend to cheat a bit on the hardware, even in higher end brands, so this Assous doesn''t escape that entirely. A girl needs a buckle that feel feminine yet substanstial. So a star off for that.
Overall, I haven''t spied too many wedges that offer as much versatility combined with sheer eye-appeal. The odd wedge material may not be for everyone, but the chic-ness factor, along with the heel, is sky high. A gem.
