I personally opened the plastic sleeve to try them on before giving them as a Christmas gift to my Phi Mu daughter. Wanted to make sure they''d fit. We wear the same size, and you know how sizes can differ!
The color is not as "neon hot pink" as in the photo. More like a medium pink, but definitely pink. Actually a nicer color than the photo. A more sophisticated pink. Not so junior high hot NEON pink. But you''d look at them and definitely think "pink". The ''straps'' are a touch lighter pink than the soles. But nothing you''d look at and really notice. And nothing you''d dislike. The word "hip flips" is molded into the soft and flexible straps but you have to hold it 6 inches from your face to notice it. It blends in to the chevron pattern on the straps. The plastic part between the toes is not stiff, but a soft plastic. And there are no sharp edges. It is completely round and smooth. The undersides of the straps are also smooth
The soles are approximately 1/2 inch thick at the ball of the foot, GRADUALLY sloping up to 3/4 inch at the heel. And I mean gradually. NOT like those flip flops with the higher ''wedge'' heel. This slight slope is almost imperceptible. But what''s nice is that it gives a tad bit of lift, so you''re not walking completely flat footed therefore it''s a bit more comfortable. The soles have ''grooves'' on the undersides. (More non-slip perhaps?)
The ''lettering'' is pure white, clean, super sharp edges on each and every letter and has no missing little specks of paint. I am simply AMAZED that on neither flip flop there isn''t at least one pinpoint speck of missing paint, especially since they were made in China. But no. They must have used a thicker coating of paint or run it through coating twice because the paint job is PERFECT. PERFECT. PERFECT. And it looks like there is a slight ''sheen'' over the whole footbase; a sealant or protective coating of some kind. NOT slippery though.
These were really made with the highest quality in mind.
I have a feeling come next summer, or maybe sooner, the Phi Mu''s at my daughters college will be ordering these when they get a look at them. FAR better quality then the others I''ve seen out there.
NOTICE:
I read another customer''s review on some flip flops she ordered in a size 6 and said they were too small. I don''t understand, don''t doubt her, but I don''t understand because my size 9 is a PERFECT fit. I actually have about a 1/2 inch space behind my heel which I like better because I don''t like my heel coming right to the edge of the flip flop. (Neither does my daughter). I prefer to see a bit of the flip flop bottom showing at the heel. That way they don''t look too small. Oh, and as for the toes. We have toes that are a bit longer than average and there''s also about 1/2 inch room at the toe end.
I will of course update if there are any problems in the future, but for now...
HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
UPDATE: 12/30/12... Daughter LOVES them. (Christmas Gift). She is between an 8 1/2 or a 9 shoe size, depending on the shoe. They look great on her feet! Perfect fit. And she commented on the high quality of the ''embossing'' of Phi Mu on the footbed of the flip flop. She said they were soooooo much nicer than what her other sorority sisters have, that they would probably all want these.
