I am a loyal Birkenstock wearer and was looking for a pair that could tolerate water a little better than the leather pairs I have. These are perfect. The footbed is still birkenstock quality and comfort, but it''s made of plastic-y material so they''re waterproof. Very comfortable and the strawberries are just so cute. The straps are still made of their regular soft material (perhaps they are leather after all? but they seem to be coated with some kind of wax) so they don''t ever chafe, even when worn new. I am 6''-6" and 240lbs and run marathons....Its easy for me to flatten a normal cushioning shoe and wear it out fast.I did however get 425 miles out of my current ASICS CUMULUS and the tread is still nice and thick...I will however change them out as I am sure I broke the cushioning out long ago with my fat arse. I really love these sandals! I love barefoot shoes but it is difficult to find a barefoot style sandal that looks like a normal sandal. Although these arent advertised necessarily as a barefoot sandal, I would say they are. I love that these have the vibram bottoms because it means they will last forever. I would say the straps of the sandal probably dont wrap to your foot like a "true" barefoot sandal say from merrell would, BUT the bottom felt great and made me feel like I was wearing a barefoot style sandal. Even if you arent interested in the barefoot aspect of these, they are still extremely comfortable, cute, and worth every penny. They arent very cushiony, but the barefoot style of these with the vibram bottom is so comfortable that it wont matter. I have very narrow feet and these were great because they werent too loose (like many sandals can be when you have narrow feet) but if you have really wide feet these might be a little tight for you. Overall great sandal, couldnt be happier!
